Drivers in Delhi do not need to carry their driver’s license and registration certificate with them and can show these documents stored on the DigiLocker platform or the mParivahan mobile app if requested by the traffic police and the transport department.

Driver’s license and registration certificate, which are available in digital form on the DigiLocker platform or the mParivahan mobile app, are valid documents under the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988, according to a notice from the Ministry of Transport of the Delhi government.

These are legally recognized on an equal footing with the certificates issued by the transport department, she added.

“The traffic police and the Department of Transport’s enforcement department duly accept the electronic form of driver’s license and registration certificate when they are displayed in the Digiocker and mParivahan apps,” the statement said.

A copy of the driver’s license and the registration certificate in any other form is not permitted as an original document, it was clarified.

The electronic recording of the driver’s license and registration certificate available on DigiLocker or mParivahan is also recognized as equivalent to the original documents in accordance with the provisions of the Information Technology Act of 2000, the communication states.

DigiLocker is a cloud-based platform for storing, sharing and verifying documents and certificates.
