Kerala reported 17,106 COVID-19 cases and 83 deaths on Saturday, bringing the total affected in the state to 03/38,903 and the number of victims to 19,428.
Among the counties, Malappuram recorded the highest number of cases on Saturday – 2,558, followed by Kozhikode with 2,236 and Thrissur with 2,027.
“Of the people infected today, 53 reached the state from outside, while 16,136 became infected with the disease through their contacts. The sources of infection of 838 have not yet been clarified.
Health Minister Veena George announced in a press release. She said 96,481 samples were tested in the past 24 hours, bringing the cumulative number of samples tested to date to 3,01,70,011. The test positive rate was 17.73 percent.
Meanwhile, 20,846 people recovered from the disease on Saturday, bringing the total number of people cured in the state to 5/36,480. There are currently 1,78,462 people in treatment in the state.
There are 414 stations in 74 local government agencies across Kerala where the weekly infection rate (WIPR) is over eight percent. The government has announced that there will be severe restrictions in these areas.
