The OnePlus 8 series – consisting of the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro – receives the OxygenOS 18.104.22.168 update. It is currently being rolled out to users in the European market. The Indian and North American markets will get it soon. The update includes optimizations for OnePlus Buds Pro, Always-on-Display (AOD), camera and more. Bundled with the update is the Android security patch from August 2021. As usual, the update for OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro will be rolled out gradually.

In the detail of the update in its community forum, OnePlus mentions that it brings some important changes to the OnePlus 8 (Review) and OnePlus 8 Pro (Review). These changes include optimizations and newly added features for OnePlus Buds Pro that were introduced last month. The update also fixes an issue with navigation gestures that occurred in certain situations. It has also received system stability improvements and other bug fixes.
The front camera has also received an optimized portrait mode effect. OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro also get a new OnePlus Store app. In particular, the newly added app can also be uninstalled if the users so wish.
The AOD also got some major upgrades with the update. Users can now take a screenshot of their AOD to share. OnePlus also adds the Bitmoji AOD developed with Snapchat to the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro. Users can now add their Bitmoji avatar to their AOD. The avatar is updated according to the activity of the users and their environment. To activate the Bitmoji AOD, go to Settings> Personalization> Clock on environment display> Bitmoji.
The firmware version for the update for OnePlus 8 in India, Europe and North America is 22.214.171.124.IN21DA, 11.08.8.IN21BA and 11.08.8.IN21AA, respectively. OnePlus 8 Pro will get versions 126.96.36.199.IN11DA, 188.8.131.52.IN11BA and 184.108.40.206.IN11AA in India, Europe and North America, respectively. As mentioned, both OnePlus smartphones will receive the update first in Europe and then in India and North America.
Bundled with the update is the latest Android security patch from August 2021. OnePlus did not mention the size of the update. However, users are still advised to update their OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro smartphones while they are connected and charging with a strong Wi-Fi connection. The update is to be rolled out in stages and will automatically reach all authorized smartphones by radio. To manually check for the update, go to Settings> System> System Updates.
