Redmi 10 has confirmed MediaTek Helio G88 SoC; The launch of Redmi 10 Prime India could be in the works

Redmi 10 comes with an octa-core MediaTek Helio G88 SoC, as Xiaomi has confirmed through a teaser published on social media. The chipset was announced last month – alongside the Helio G96 – and offers a maximum clock speed of 2 GHz. The Redmi 10 is likely to be the first phone to feature the MediaTek Helio G88. Independently of this, Xiaomi is working on another model in addition to the regular Redmi 10, the Redmi 10 Prime. The Redmi 10 Prime could be specially developed for the Indian market.

Xiaomi’s official Twitter account has confirmed the presence of the MediaTek Helio G88 on the Redmi 10. The chipset comes as an upgrade of the Helio G85 that the Taiwanese chipmaker launched last year. The successor contains two cores ARM Cortex-A75 and six cores Cortex-A55 – with a maximum clock rate of 2 GHz. There is also support for a 90 Hz display, LPDDR4x RAM of up to 8 GB, and eMMC 5.1 storage. MediaTek paired the Helio G88 with an ARM Mali-G52 MC2 GPU that comes with a maximum frequency of 1 GHz.

The presence of the MediaTek Helio G88 SoC was discovered along with other details about the Redmi Note 10 in an official blog post briefly published by Xiaomi last week. Some recent rumors also hinted at the same chipset on the upcoming Redmi phone.

In addition to the teaser confirming the MediaTek chipset, Tipster Mukul Sharma posted a few screenshots from the IMEI database of the GSM Association (GSMA). It suggests that in addition to the Vanilla Redmi 10, Xiaomi also has the Redmi 10 Prime under development.

The Redmi 10 Prime, which allegedly appeared in the IMEI database, has the model number 21061119BI. The last letter of the model number indicates that the phone is an Indian variant, as Xiaomi usually brings its global phone versions with the letter “G” in the model numbers, while the China-specific models add the “C” to the Attached number.

Xiaomi has not yet officially revealed the exact details of the Redmi 10. It is also unclear whether the Redmi 10 Prime will come next to the Redmi 10. However, given the amount of teasers, the company seems to be planning to expand its Redmi portfolio with new smartphones soon.
