The Taliban want to unveil a new government framework for Afghanistan in the next few weeks, a spokesman for the Islamist movement said on Saturday after the insurgents quickly took over the South Asian country.
“Taliban’s legal, religious and foreign policy experts want to present the new government framework in the next few weeks,” the official told Reuters.
The Taliban have tried to show a more moderate face since last week’s lightning takeover, but ruled with an iron fist from 1996 to 2001 before being overthrown by US-led forces for being al-Qaeda fighters behind the 9/11 attacks protected.
