COVID-19 update: Maha claims a new record by vaccinating 10.96 lakh people a day

The Maharashtra government on Saturday claimed it set a new record by vaccinating over 10.96 lakhs against COVID-19 in a single day.

The state did just that with its network of 5,200 vaccination centers, where 10,96,493 doses were administered. That number could rise because some centers were vaccinated by late evening, the state health ministry said in a statement.

Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope said the state government has long insisted on supplying larger numbers of vials so that we can “increase the rate of vaccination against COVID-19.”

“Today we have proven our claim that we have the capacity to vaccinate more than 10 lakh people in a day,” he said.

The Maharashtra government vaccinated 8.11 lakh on July 3, while 9,64,460 doses were administered on August 14, said Dr. Pradeep Vyas, additional chief secretary of the Ministry of Health.

Maharashtra reported 4,575 new coronavirus cases and 145 deaths on Saturday, bringing the number to 64,20,510 and the number to 1,35,817, a health official said.
