Best Emmys 2021 Memes: Rita Wilson raps and Tim Cook is now “T-Dog”

Ted Lasso’s Brett Goldstein won an Emmy for a supporting actor on Sunday night and fans of his character Roy Kent were delighted.

Apple TV +

the The 73rd annual Primetime Emmy Awards came back personally this year, after a virtual performance in 2020 because of the pandemic. And with the show, of course, came the memes and jokes – everything from Rita Wilson, uh, rapping, to a new nickname for Apple CEO Tim Cook.

Rita Wilson shouldn’t be rapping

The memes started even before the first prize of the evening was awarded when Rita Wilson rapped Markie with Biz’s Just A Friend. Markie died in July at the age of only 57.

While some people were grateful that the awards show honored Markie, some said Wilson should probably keep her main job. “I’m not drunk enough for Rita Wilson rapping on Just A Friend !!!” tweeted author Carrie Courogen.

“Rita Wilson saw Glenn Close upset at the Academy Awards and said, ‘Shut my beer,'” wrote NPR’s Aisha Harris.

And some people compared Wilson to their son, the rapper Chet Hanks. Writer Hugh McIntyre said, “Rita Wilson’s mixtape would still be better than Chet’s.”

Seth Rogen beats up Emmy organizers

Actor Seth Rogen pointed out that despite the coronavirus pandemic, the show was held in a crowded inner tent. (All Emmy attendees were required to provide proof of vaccination and a negative laboratory PCR test result.)

“Why is there a roof?” asked Rogen. “It’s more important that we have three chandeliers than that we don’t kill Eugene Levy tonight.

Rogen may be a comedian, but he had a point and the fans got that.

“I appreciate that Seth Rogen is calling out the overcrowded interiors of the Emmys, both because I figured it and now it’s fun to watch the show trying to fix the narrative,” tweeted author Caroline Boil.

At that moment, a chandelier was noticed and killed Eugene Levy.

Addressing the coronavirus protocols in his opening monologue, Cedric the Entertainer said, “It really feels amazing here, contrary to what Seth (Rogen) was talking about. It feels good. We are all annoyed. We had to get annoyed to come here. I got annoyed. I had no reaction like Nicki Minaj’s cousin’s boyfriend. “

When the awards got rolling, Apple TV Plus show Ted Lasso scored two goals straight away. Hannah Waddingham, who plays team owner Rebecca Welton, and Brett Goldstein, who plays retired player and coach Roy Kent, won supporting actress and supporting actor Emmys.

Ted Lasso’s fans were happy and had a bit of fun with Goldstein’s role as the rugged and often profane Kent. The show’s fictional team, AFC Richmond’s Twitter account, tweeted the Roy Kent chant from the show.

“He’s here! He’s there! He’s everywhere! Roy Kent! Roy Kent!” read the tweet.

A tweet cleverly twisted the chant to read, “He’s here, he’s there, he’s recording hardware, Roy Kent, Roy Kent.”

Another person said, “I feel better with Roy when I have to swear in front of my kids every day. Thanks, Roy. “

He didn’t swear, did he? He was specifically told not to do it, classic Roy.

Conan’s greeting

Conan O’Brien decided to stand up and greet the President of the Television Academy, Frank Scherma, when Scherma made his speech and the picture became a meme.

O’Brien has been edited into pictures showing him saluting everything from a giant lawn skeleton to Simpsons’ characters on a giant toilet.

“Need a cam on Conan all night please,” wrote one Twitter user.

“Legend has it that Conan O’Brien is still standing in that #Emmys room and saluting,” said another.

Tim Cook gets a shoutout

When Ted Lasso won the Emmy for Best Comedy Series, the show’s co-creator Bill Lawrence thanked Apple CEO Tim Cook for the show being on Apple TV Plus. But he gave Cook a nickname – “T-Dog”, which caught the attention of some viewers.

“T-Dog is kind of brilliant when you remember his middle name is Donald,” tweeted one attentive viewer. “Please don’t ever call him that.”

Another tweet referenced when then President Donald Trump Cook called “Tim Apple” wrote, “I really appreciate that this man has given Tim Apple a new nickname. This is T-Dog. “
