So Snoop Dogg was just claiming to be a well known NFT booster

Snoop Dogg, the famous rapper, tweeted on Monday that he’s the one behind a Twitter account that talks about NFTs. Yeah, it really happened. While Snoop Dogg has already posted NFTs, this isn’t exactly new to celebrities – having a Twitter account that constantly tweets about crypto and owning around a hundred of the crypto tokens would be another level, however. Is this reveal real? A joke? It’s unclear, but it sure is interesting.

@CozomoMedici (apparently named after a prominent Italian banker from the Renaissance era) is a Twitter account that has garnered quite a lot of followers in the month or two that he was active talking about crypto. Part of what made the account stand out is that it appeared to have spent millions on NFTs. The person behind the Medici account has been talking about disclosing their personal information for at least a few days, and even runs a survey asking people to guess their real identity. (No, Snoop Dogg wasn’t one of the options, but AOC and the lead singer from Muse were). It culminated today with the person behind the account announcing that they would tweet their identity from their personal account and saying that they would be discovered because they are very famous. Five minutes later, Snoop Dogg tweeted “I’m @CozomoMedici”.

As promised, I will shortly be logging out of my personal account.

Since my fame is considerable, the tweet will undoubtedly be discovered. Those curious about my identity will soon know.

It is tempting to use Medici’s engagement with Jason Derulo, singer of “Whatcha Say” and “Wiggle (feat. Snoop Dogg),” as evidence of his fame in space. The R&B artist thanked Medici for helping him buy a CryptoPunk earlier this month, but today’s (possible) reveal begs the question: Did Derulo look at Medici because they were prominent in the NFT space or did he know that it was actually one of his colleagues? ?

While the Medici account is relatively new and was only created last month, it nonetheless made a name for itself as it was mentioned in a story from the crypto outlet The Block. The Medici OpenSea account also has around 100 NFTs in its collection (some of which were purchased for multi-million dollar Ethereum).

I know the question you’re asking … no, scream … no, freestyle rapping on your monitor: did Cozomo de Medici buy any Snoop Dogg-themed NFTs? Well of course I sniffed around their OpenSea account and found some things that would be pretty amusing if it turns out that Medici is indeed Snoop.

First, a few minutes after Snoop tweeted his confession, the Medici account bought two weed-themed NFTs from an artist named NyanDogg. A cloud of dull and snoop-related NFTs has also been sent to the account since it was revealed.

Hey wait, isn’t that Snoop’s Twitter avatar?

It is with George!

There is of course the possibility that this is a troll of Snoop Dogg or that Medici and Snoop coordinated this and the true identity of the Medici is still unknown. The Medici Twitter account liked a lot of tweets about Snoop Doggs, but to be honest, if Snoop claims to be me I would have tweets about it too, even though I’m not actually Snoop Dogg (as far as you know) .

It is difficult to say what the consequences of all of this will be. Will Snoop Dogg become a thought leader in the NFT space? Will more celebrities come out who have kept crypto accounts (maybe Snoop’s girlfriend Martha Stewart is Pranksy)? Or will the whole thing turn out to be an ingenious prank?

At the moment, the answer to all of these questions is unclear, but there is one specific consequence of Snoop’s tweet: His mentions are now full of people suggesting NFT projects for him. Never thought I’d have that in common with him.

Final note: While I cannot stress enough that there is no hard evidence linking Snoop and the Medici account, there is one more critical note: Medici often signs tweets with a wine emoji. Do you know who has their own brand of wine? Sniff Dogg. The case closed everyone, we totally got to the point.
