Eternal’s post-credits scenes offer “big surprises,” says director Chloé Zhao

Eternals – the next Marvel film from Oscar-winning filmmaker Chloé Zhao – will have two scenes in the credits of the film. Both are “equally important” and contain “big surprises,” teased Zhao. That means Eternals will have both a mid-credits scene and a post-credits scene. This is nothing new to a Marvel Cinematic Universe chapter, but it’s still great to have prior approval from the writer and director herself. Now that you know you must remain in your seats until the end of Eternals.

“Yes! Don’t just stay for the first – stay for the second too,” Zhao said to Fandango when asked about Eternals Post Credits scenes you.”

That’s all Zhao was willing to offer, which is completely understandable. As with all Marvel post-credits scenes, I would envision the Eternals post-credits scenes building a potential Eternals 2 – alongside future MCU entries by bringing in other MCU characters we know.

One scene could tie in with the mid-credits scene from Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, in which Wong (Benedict Wong) found a beacon in the Ten Rings, an ancient weapon that is thousands of years old. Eternals have lived on Earth for over 7,000 years, so there might be a connection there.

Additionally, it’s hard to say what the “big surprises” might be in Eternal’s post-credits scenes. We just have to wait a few more weeks to find out for ourselves.

Eternals follows the eponymous immortal beings who derive their superpowers from cosmic energy – including Gemma Chan as the sensitive Sersi, Richard Madden as Ikaris, who can fly and shoot rays from his eyes, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, who can shoot projectiles from his hands and lives as a famous Bollywood star, Lia McHugh as a sprite who can conjure up illusions, and Brian Tyree Henry as gun and tech inventor Phastos, who is the first gay MCU superhero.

We also have Lauren Ridloff as Superspeed Makkari, the first deaf MCU superhero, Barry Keoghan as mind manipulator Druig, Don Lee as Gilgamesh, the strongest of the Eternals, Harish Patel as Kingo’s manager Karun, Kit Harington as employee of the Natural History Museum Dane Whitman, Salma Hayek as the spiritual leader of the Eternal Ajak, who can heal, and Angelina Jolie as the elite warrior Thena, who can make any kind of weapon from cosmic energy.
