The Samsung W22 5G was launched in China as a custom version of the Galaxy Z Fold 3. The new Samsung phone, a successor to the Samsung W21 5G from last year, comes with an S Pen and is specially designed for the Chinese market. While the Samsung W22 5G’s hardware is pretty similar to that of the Galaxy Z Fold 3, it does include some software-level tweaks, including different themes and wallpapers, and a slightly different design with a black and gold color scheme to provide a different experience. The Samsung W22 5G also lacks Google Mobile Services and the company’s “Galaxy” branding.
Samsung W22 5G price, availability
The price of the Samsung W22 5G was set at 16,999 CNY (approx. 1,988,000 rupees) for the 16 GB + 256 GB storage variant. The phone comes in a Phantom Black color along with a textured gold hinge. It is available for pre-order in China and will ship starting October 22nd.
In addition to the Samsung W22 5G, the company is also selling the regular Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 in the Chinese market at a price of 14,999 CNY (about 1.75,300 rupees) for the only 12 GB + 512 GB storage configuration. However, the original model does not include the custom changes available on the new W-Series phone.
Last year, Samsung W21 5G was launched in China for 19,999 CNY (about 2,33,900 rupees).
Samsung W22 5G specs
The Samsung W22 5G is technically very similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 3, with a resolution of 268 pixels. The foldable display also offers S Pen support. The Samsung W22 5G is powered by an octa-core SoC, along with 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of onboard storage.
For photos and videos, the Samsung W22 5G has a triple rear camera setup that supports 12 megapixel sensors along with optical image stabilization (OIS). There’s also a 10-megapixel selfie camera on top of the cover and a 4-megapixel selfie camera below the display can be seen on the foldable display.
The Samsung W22 5G supports a range of connectivity options including 5G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth v5.2, NFC, Ultra Wideband (UWB) and a USB Type-C port. The phone also has a side-mounted fingerprint sensor. It contains a 4,400 mAh battery. The phone also measures 158.2 x 67.1 x 16 mm when folded and 158.2 x 128.1 x 6.4 mm when unfolded. It weighs 288 grams.
