According to the latest research by Counterpoint, Xiaomi led the Indian smartphone market in the third quarter of 2021 with a share of 22 percent. Total Indian smartphone shipments top 52 million units in the third quarter, and while Xiaomi leads the way, Apple has been the fastest growing brand this quarter. Xiaomi’s top position was led by the Redmi 9 and Redmi Note 10 series. Samsung remained the second largest smartphone brand in India with a 19 percent share. According to the report, OnePlus has had the highest shipments ever in India, with the Nord series cumulative shipments exceeding 3 million units.
Counterpoint’s latest report on Indian smartphone shipments in the third quarter of 2021 shows that Xiaomi, Samsung, Vivo, Realme and Oppo were the top performing brands in that order. As already mentioned, Xiaomi is said to have a market share of 22 percent. Four Xiaomi smartphones – Redmi 9A, Redmi 9 Power, Redmi Note 10 and Redmi 9 – conquered the first four places in the bestseller list. All of these four phones are said to have shipped more than a million times in the third quarter, with the Redmi 9A being the best-selling model to date in 2021.
According to Counterpoint, Samsung ranks second with a 19 percent market share in India. It is said to have led the middle to upper price segment (Rs. 10,000 – Rs. 30,000) with a market share of 25 percent. Driven by the models Samsung Galaxy M42, Samsung Galaxy M52, Samsung Galaxy A22 and Samsung Galaxy A52s, the brand is said to have conquered second place in the 5G smartphone segment. The newly launched Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 also got off to a strong start in India, the report said.
According to Counterpoint, Vivo took third place in the third quarter of 2021 with a 15 percent market share. According to reports, Realme followed with 14 percent market share and Oppo is said to have ranked fifth with 10 percent in the third quarter of 2021. In India, Apple was the fastest growing brand in the third quarter, with a year-over-year growth of 212 percent, according to Counterpoint. It led the premium smartphone market and the ultra-premium market with market shares of 44 percent and 74 percent, respectively.
Counterpoint says the OnePlus Nord series has been well received in India, with the company seeing 55 percent year-over-year growth in the third quarter of 2021. I registered the highest deliveries of all time in India. The newly launched OnePlus Nord 2 and Nord CE 5G were named as the driving factors for the growth of OnePlus. The report adds that shipments of 5G smartphones topped the 10 million mark for the first time in the third quarter of 2021. Vivo is said to be the leading 5G smartphone brand, followed by Samsung, OnePlus and Realme.
