Telegram update 8.2 brings speed scrolling; Adds date bar, calendar view for shared media, admin controls, and more

Telegram is introducing a new update that includes several features to make the app easier to use. This includes a new date bar and calendar view for the shared media page in the iOS app. The newly introduced date bar on the side of the shared media page allows users to switch between days and months and find the images / videos they are looking for much faster. The latest update to the instant messaging platform also gives administrators more control over who can join the chat and see the chat with new administrator approval settings. In addition, the Telegram update adds global chat topics and new interactive emojis. Telegram for iOS now also shows the transit time for shared locations.

The arrival of the new update was announced for Telegram iOS users on Wednesday November 3rd via a blog post detailing how to use them. As mentioned earlier, the update has added a date bar to the side of the shared media page that shows all of the photos, videos, files, and music that have been shared in a given chat – individually or in a group. Users can drag up and down with it to quickly scroll through shared media. Additionally, users can even pinch their fingers together to zoom in and out for a better browsing experience.

The Shared Media page has a new calendar view that allows Telegram users to find media from a specific date. You can also filter shared media by photos or videos, or both. You can access it by tapping the chat header, then scrolling down and clicking the menu icon.

The latest update has a preview option for administrators. When a user opens an invite link with admin approval enabled, they’ll see a button to send a join request, which admins can manage from a new bar at the top of the chat. This allows Telegram group admins to view an applicant’s public profile pictures and bio before approving or rejecting their request. Administrators can also name their invitation links for better organization.

The eight new chat topics that Telegram announced in the previous update are now reaching iOS devices. Each of the new themes features day and night modes, animated backgrounds, and gradient message bubbles. It will be available to Android users shortly.

Shared locations on iOS now show the transit time with the new update. By tapping a shared location in chat, users can view the travel time for walking, driving, or public transport.

Telegram’s new update allows text entered in the message bar to be automatically converted to a caption when a user attaches a medium. The cloud drafts allow users to type the message on the computer, then attach the photo from the phone and send it all together.

Users will also get new interactive emojis with full-screen effects with the new update. Also, Telegram’s settings for iOS have been redesigned to match the style of iOS 15.
