Twitter is forming its own crypto team to focus on blockchain and Web 3.0 development

Twitter’s Jack Dorsey previously advocated the adoption of cryptocurrency, blockchain, and other decentralized technologies. The company is now assembling a dedicated team dedicated to development in the crypto space, led by veteran blockchain engineer Tess Rinearson. According to Rinearson, Twitter Crypto will serve as the “Center of Excellence for everything to do with Blockchain and Web3” in the social media network. Rinearson will report to Twitter’s Chief Technology Officer, Parag Agarwal, and brings extensive space work experience.

Rinarson took to Twitter to reveal plans on what the crypto team she now leads will focus on in the short term. The team’s first focus will be building decentralized apps (dApps) for developers to manage virtual goods, currencies and opportunities for their fans to support their community. Rinarson indicated that her team will then try to seek out crypto technology to improve identity, community, and property on Twitter.

I’m very excited to announce that I’ve joined Twitter to lead a new team focused on crypto, blockchains and other decentralized technologies – including and beyond cryptocurrencies.✨

Additionally, Rinearson notes that her team will be working with Bluesky, Twitter’s decentralized social networking project, to “help shape the future of decentralized social media.” of Happening to lead his Bluesky initiative in August.

Looking ahead, we’ll explore how ideas from crypto communities can help us push the boundaries of what is possible with identity, community, property, and more.

Rinearson announced that further settings need to be made for the Twitter crypto team.

Twitter Crypto will underpin all of this work and serve as a “Center of Excellence” for all things related to the blockchain on Twitter. We will be recruiting for positions in engineering and product. If that sounds exciting, please get in touch! My DMs are open as always. ✨

The inclusion of the crypto team comes more than a month after Twitter implemented a method to tip developers using Bitcoin over the Lightning Network and evidence that they are experimenting with ways to validate NFT that is used as profile pictures will.

Rinearson has been working in blockchain technology since 2015 when she started as a software engineer for Chain, a [blockchain] technology company. Later, according to her profile on LinkedIn, she worked as VP of Engineering at the Interchain Foundation.

Meanwhile, Twitter isn’t the only tech company turning its attention to blockchain and cryptocurrency. Recently, Apple CEO Tim Cook admitted that he owns crypto and said he has been “interested in it for a while,” although he added that Apple does not yet have a crypto roadmap.
