Google Announces Best Android Apps and Games of 2021 in India; BGMI, clubhouse among the top titles

Google continued its trend on Tuesday to announce the winners of the Google Play Best of 2021 Awards in India, dedicated to apps and games listed on Android’s official app store. The search giant named Bitclass – the app that enables cohort-based learning – as “Best App of 2021”, while the battle royale game Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) was named “Best Game of 2021”. Google has also announced the audio app Clubhouse based on user votes for the Users’ Choice app of the year 2021.

Bitclass was developed by Bengaluru based entrepreneurs and voted Best App of the Year in India by Google Play Editors. According to Google, the app shows “the emergence of a digital learning culture in India that is being driven by innovative localized solutions”.

Bitclass offers a variety of online courses ranging from baking and dancing to personal finance and theater acting. These classes are available in both the free and paid versions.

“In India, we once again saw a diverse range of apps that help people across the country with relevant – and often unique – solutions to their daily needs. This year we’ve seen a significant increase in e-learning, with many winners finding creative ways to help India learn a range of skills online, whether through mastering a passion through celebrity-led virtual classes with FrontRow or through using AI to scale student learning outcomes with Embibe, ”said Brett Bouchard, Global Head of Editorial, Google Play in a blog post.

FrontRow was named “Best App for Fun” of 2021, while Embibe was named this year’s “Best Apps for Personal Growth”.

Also this year, Google announced the best apps for tablets and wearables. In India, Houzz, Canva and Concepts: Sketch, Note, Draw are the three “Best Apps for Tablets” of 2021, while My Fitness Pal, Calm and Sleep Cycle: Sleep Analysis & Smart Alarm Clock are named “Best Apps” for Wear’.

As the pandemic continued to put pressure on health and wellbeing among Android users in India, Google voted Jumping Minds one of the “Best Hidden Gems”, Evergreen Club and the “Best Apps for Good”, and Sarva Yoga App is one of this year to the “Best Apps for Everyday Essentials”.

At the beginning of this month, Google launched the Google Play Users ‘Choice Award 2021 and declared Clubhouse the “Users’ Choice App of 2021” in India. The success shows the country’s growing preference for voice and audio-based platforms, said the Android manufacturer.

It’s important to note that the winners of Google’s best apps and games on Google Play differ by region. This means that the ones you have in India are not available with the same title in other markets.

In the US, Google named Balance as “Best App of the Year” and Pokemon Unite as “Best Game of the Year”.

Google said that Google Play’s Best Of winners represent “the gold standard” in app and game development around the world. The company also claimed that it selected winners across the developer ecosystem “to underscore that a great app or game can come from anywhere, whether you’re a big developer or an emerging developer.”

It’s worth noting, however, that the selection of these best apps and games is at the discretion of Google Play editors, with the exception of “Users’ Choice” titles, which are selected based on user votes.

Google announced to Gadgets 360 that the editorial staff of Google Play selected the winners of the Best of 2021 after considering new high quality apps and games with high user ratings and unique use cases.

Last year, Google named Sleep Meditation for Calm Sleep by Wysa as the “Best App” of the year and Legends of Runeterra as the “Best Game” of the year in India.
