Bulli Bai controversy: Delhi police reportedly asked Twitter for details of the user who first posted via the app


Delhi police have asked Twitter for information about the account, which first tweeted through the Bulli Bai app, and asked them to remove objectionable content related to the controversy, sources said Monday.

The police have also requested information from the GitHub platform about the app developer “Bulli Bai”.

The case registered in the Southeast District Cyber ​​Police Station under Section 509 (word, gesture or act to insult a woman’s modesty) of the Indian Criminal Code has now been transferred to the Delhi Police Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO.)) Unit.

The action of the Delhi police came following a complaint from a journalist at the cyber police station alleging that her photo was uploaded to a website with the aim of targeting her.

The complainant said that she is seeking immediate registration of FIR and an immediate investigation into unknown persons who attempt to harass and insult Muslim women on social media and the internet.

The Mumbai Police Department has also filed a first intelligence report (FIR) against unknown persons based on complaints that manipulated photos of women were uploaded for auction on the Bulli Bai application hosted by the GitHub platform.

On Sunday, the West Mumbai cyber police station registered a case against the app developers of “Bulli Bai” and Twitter handles who had advertised the app.

The case was brought against the unknown perpetrators according to Sections 153 (A) (promoting hostility between different groups on the basis of religion, etc.), 153 (B) (allegations, allegations detrimental to national integration), 295 (A) (Willful and malicious) registers acts aimed at outraging religious feelings), 354D (stalking), 509 (words, gestures or acts aimed at offending a woman’s modesty), 500 (criminal defamation) of the Indian Criminal Code and Section 67 (posting or transmitting obscene material in electronic form) of the Information Technology Act.
