Honor Magic V foldable smartphone launch date set for January 10th, recommended for Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC


The Honor Magic V foldable phone will launch on January 10th, the company has announced. According to Honor CEO Zhao Ming, the phone with its “most complete structural design” will feature the best flip screen on the market and use complex hinge technology. Meanwhile, the smartphone has allegedly been spotted in the Geekbench database, suggesting some key specs of the foldable device, including a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC. It could be the first foldable handset to run on the latest Snapdragon chipset.

According to a post by Honor on Weibo, the Honor Magic V smartphone will be unveiled at an event scheduled for January 10 at 7:30 p.m. local time (5:00 p.m. EST).

According to Honor CEO Zhao Ming, the Honor Magic V with its “most complete structural design” will offer the best folding screen on the market. The smartphone is said to have a dual-screen design and could have an 8-inch internal display and a 6.5-inch external display.

Zhao also slapped rivals, saying that by introducing smaller flip-up screens, some manufacturers have violated the original intention of folding phones. The manager also said that the Honor Magic V will have complex hinge technology. The company teased this hinge design in a short video that also suggests that when the phone is folded, there is no gap between the panels. The outer screen is also shown with a center-aligned hole punch cutout for the front camera. It could cost at CNY 10,000 (roughly Rs. 1.17 lakh).

Tipster Digital Chat Station had claimed that the Honor Magic V will have a 50 megapixel primary sensor in the triple rear camera. According to the tipster, the phone’s other functions include a display with a refresh rate of 90 Hz and another with a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The foldable handset is equipped with 66 W fast charging technology and Android 12. The tipster also claimed that the phone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC.

The information about the SoC was also spotted through the alleged Geekbench listing of the Honor Magic V. The smartphone should have the model number model Honor MGI-AN00. According to the listing, it is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon SM8450 SoC, which is the code name for the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset. The SoC is said to be paired with 12 GB of RAM. The phone runs on Android 12. It achieved 1,176 points in the single-core test and 3,440 points in the multi-core test.
