Airbnb could accept crypto payments, CEO Brian Chesky tweeted customer wish list

Airbnb, the popular accommodation booking platform, may start accepting payments in cryptocurrencies later this year. Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky posted a list of customer requirements on Twitter with enabling crypto payments as the top suggestion. In his post, Chesky noted that his company was already working on most of the client advisory services but promised to look into others. Recently, a number of consumer brands have opened up crypto payments for some goods and services. Most of these pro-crypto brands are based in the United States.

As part of his Twitter thread, Chesky noted that if Airbnb actually accepts crypto payments, the company will be pulling in a variety of token ideas.

Have 4,000 suggestions. Here are the top 6:

1 – crypto payments (top suggestion)
2 – Clear price displays
3 – Guest loyalty program
4 – Updated cleaning fees
5 – More long term stays & discounts
6 – Better customer service

Already working on most, will check others now!

Chesky’s post received hundreds of retweets and thousands of likes. People who commented on the post recommended accepting Airbnb, Bitcoin, Shiba Inu, and Ethereum.

This isn’t the first time Chesky has come to terms with Airbnb customers waiting for a crypto payment option.

In an interview in September 2021, the 40-year-old billionaire had said that people have been asking about crypto payments on the platform for years.

Recently, a restaurant called Crypto Street Restaurant in the state of Florida announced that it accepts payments in all cryptocurrencies.

The US cinema chain AMC Theaters has added support for payments in Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin and Bitcoin Cash. The brand will also start accepting booking prices in Shiba Inu tokens.

Great news! As promised, there are many new ways to pay online at AMC NOW. We now proudly accept: drum roll, please … Bitcoin, Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash, Litecoin. Also Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal. Incredibly, they already account for 14% of our total online transactions! Dogecoin next.

On the other hand, most brands around the world are skeptical about allowing crypto payments.

Several governments around the world are pondering ways to regulate the crypto sector for fear of misusing crypto assets to facilitate illegal activity.

So far, only the Central American country El Salvador accepts Bitcoin as legal tender.
