US states are investigating Facebook parent Meta’s VR Oculus business for possible violations

According to three sources familiar with the matter, several states have begun investigating possible violations of how Facebook, now known as Meta Platforms, operates its virtual reality Oculus business.

Two of the sources said the US Federal Trade Commission was also involved in the antitrust investigation. Meta did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

New York, North Carolina and Tennessee were among the states involved in the investigation, a source said. A group of nearly 50 states also petitioned an appeals court on Friday to reinstate its antitrust lawsuit filed against Facebook in December 2020.

The investigations into Facebook’s Oculus business are part of a larger investigation, one of the sources said.

The offices of the Attorneys General of New York, North Carolina and Tennessee did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The investigation was first reported by Bloomberg News.
